First Lady's Scholarship Initiative

First Ladies have played an important role throughout AAMU history. For instance, First Lady Abbiegail Hugine, the wife of AAMU’s eleventh president, Dr. Andrew Hugine, Jr., has been instrumental in the consistency of campus beautification efforts through the formation the Bulldog Pride Committee, implementing several initiatives. The First Lady’s Scholarship Initiative rallies donations and participation from students, faculty and staff, alumni, community leaders, churches and the community at large. In addition to serving as a mechanism through which to honor the University’s esteemed first ladies since its founding in 1875, the luncheon is an earnest effort to raise scholarship funds for deserving AAMU students at Alabama A&M University who exemplify the spirit of our founder, Dr. William Hooper Council.
